Back Store
Sculptural installation, paraffin and foundry wax, 2016.
Back Store is a wax cast simulacrum of a catering back storage room, an area hidden from the guest’s sight. Drawing on the experience of customer-facing workplaces as sites of performance, specifically sites where emotional labour is performed, the installation invites the viewer to take on the role of the ‘performer worker’ and imagine how they might behave or feel in this ‘backstage’ space, as well as how they might interact with these objects.
Installation view at Undercurrent, solo exhibition at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Tank Gallery (2016).
